What is the Tunxis College Career Pathways Program (CCP)?
The Tunxis College Career Pathways Program (CCP) is a collaborative program between area high schools and Tunxis Community College. It is designed to allow high school students to sample the rigor of college academics, and possibly earn college credit, while attending high school.
A Career Pathway is a series of courses that CCP students commit to taking in high school. Each pathway includes a designated math course, English/speech course, science course and a course or courses in a career area. The CCP courses meet the same level of rigor taught at the college level. Students earn “dual credit” (credit from their high school and credit from Tunxis Community College). Berlin High School Offers two career pathways; one for Business/Accounting which requires anchor career courses in Accounting I and II, and one in Computer Information Systems which requires an anchor career course in Business Technologies.
How does it work?
• Students complete this application and give it to their guidance counselor. Guidance counselors determine
students' eligibility for the CCP program.
• Students must be in grade 11 or 12
• Students take college-level courses at their high school and meet grading requirements stipulated by the
College; this may require students to take a college-required final exam or an academic assessment to get
course credit, in addition to completing the course with the required minimum grade.
• Students who earn a 550 or better on the Math portion of the SATs meet the academic assessment eligibility for the
Algebra I/II
Students earn college credit in the form of a transcript from Tunxis Community College. Students may choose to come directly to Tunxis or they may choose to take the transcript to the college of their choice to inquire about transfer credit.
How much does it cost?
There is NO COST for students to enroll in the CCP program. Earning FREE college credit now will help you prepare academically for your future. It can also save time and money. The main requirements are EFFORT and DETERMINATION!
You should apply if…
• You feel prepared to challenge yourself with the rigor of college courses.
• You would like to explore career areas.
• You are determined to do your very best to succeed.
• You want to save time and money when you go to college.
